Robert E. Camors, Jr.
I joined CCC about September 1970 and after CLT – 1-0 School I was on RT California first under Joe Walker for one mission then Chuck Clayton after that Toby Todd was on the team at the same time but was not on the Mixter Brightlight – Plaster said he did not know about the Mixter Brightlight – but we did not find Mixter.
Musselman was the 1-2 but has never been to any SOAR as far as I know and never was in communication. Gavin Storter who was the Recon Company commander after Howard has recently passed away (last year or so). He was elected to the Ranger Hall of Fame about 10-15 years ago and his info is on that website about the HALO mission.
I went to 1-0 school with Keith Messenger who then went to CCN – I met up with a few times after VN – he used to live in my area. Lost contact though. I was at FOB2 for about 6 months. After getting wounded on a mission (nothing serious, multiple frag from a B-40) with Clayton I got stuck as the Club Officer – tried to get out of it but could not. Went on one local area mission after that but that was all. Fritz Krupa was my roommate for a while.
The 1-0 on SFC Smith’s mission when he was MIA from CCC in November1970 was SFC Roberts. I went to 1-0 School with him. He never returned to The FOB after that mission that I knew of. They were in Hotel 6 which was the worst box we knew of – well Hotel 6 and Juliet 9 were both bad.
My trainer at CLT was Moose Monroe – there were a lot of great stories about him at the time but I have never seen them written up – maybe I missed something. He was “famous” but has not written up (yet). He was a hair stylist in civilian life (I was told). There was a mission where his team was going to take a POW and he got behind a tree and the NVA were riding bikes on a trail. He was going
To get behind a tree and then step out and knock the guy off the bike and take him POW but the guy fell over, broke his neck and died. So, no POW. Very funny in a SOG kind of way – civilians might not see the humor in it.
