281st Assault Helicopter Company (AHC) “Intruders”

The unit started as early support for Project Delta (B-52) and then appeared to be the air support for Omega (B-50), and Sigma (B-56) two years later when they were formed in 1966.

Mission: 10th Combat AVN BN, lst AVN Brigade, 1 Jan 67 – 31 Dec ‘67

On 10/10-13/67, the 281st “Intruders” were tasked for the only time in ‘67 to support Omega during this brief period.  According to the 281st History, their first platoon provided three UH-1D’s. “Staging out of Kontum, the aircraft were utilized in the daily shuttle of a 72-man reaction force to New Dak To and to stand by daily there to insert the reaction force in areas where the LRRP detected enemy activity.  Three assaults were made northwest of New Dak To into mountain-side landing zones.”
